We are a volunteer based, non-profit organization.
We commit to maximize the value of all contributions to help the needy children
we serve and to minimize any expense not directly providing benefit. Our overhead
costs are minimal because all officers and board members volunteer their time.
Blaine Porter, Provo, UT,
President and co-founder of FFCI, has a Ph.D. from Cornell University, has
40 years of teaching experience at the university level, and served as a department
chair for 10 years and dean of a college for 14 years. He was an officer
in several professional organizations including Pres. of the National Council
on Family Relations. In addition to serving as President he was a member
of the Executive committee for 6 years and the Board of Directors for 12 years.
He was a Fulbright Research Scholar and Visiting Professor at the University
of London for a year and a visiting professor at the German Universities of
Bamberg and Wurzburg for two summers. He served as President of the
local chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, helped organize the United Way and Retired
Senior Volunteer Program in his local community, and served on a committee
of the United Nations. His publications include 2 books and several
dozen journal articles. He is listed in Who's Who in America and 14 other
similar listings. He has experience in three humanitarian organizations
and has been to Ghana, West Africa, six times.
Katherine Porter, Provo, UT, Vice President and co-founder of FFCI, is the mother of 6 children, has over 30 years of leadership experience in programs for children and youth in her community and church, including PTA President. She was a city director for the Human Development Institute of Denver where she had responsibility for organizing and enrolling participants in transformational workshops, and later was an instructor in the workshops. She traveled to Bosnia and Croatia on humanitarian convoys and organized and directed a group of 26 persons (builders, medical staff, and teachers) to Honduras after Hurricane Mitch and has traveled to Africa six times doing humanitarian service. Her leadership abilities and organizing skills have resulted in the collection of several containers of medical supplies, clothes, shoes, school supplies and other needed items for those in third world countries. Her compassion and love for children is unending.
Isaac Appiah, Rochester, NY, Secretary of FFCI, was born and educated in Ghana. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Ghana and completed most of the requirements for an M.S. degree. He completed a Master of Public Administration degree in April, 2003 at Brigham Young University. He performed two years of national service to his country and two years of volunteer service for his church. He served as a marketing manager for Anno Engineering LTD, a research staff person for World Bank and as a producer, announcer and newsreader for Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. He was an active participant in the organizing of FFCI and plans a career of pubic service in Ghana.
